LCDR Laura Alexander earned both a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Indiana University. She received a four-year Indian Health Service (IHS) Health Professions Scholarship and graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2011. She began her career as a civilian staff optometrist at the Lawton Indian Hospital in Lawton, OK. She commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Public Health Service in 2014. She serves as the Clinical Externship Director and Clinical Adjunct Faculty for several Colleges of Optometry. She is the Chief of Optometry for the Lawton Service Unit and serves as the Oklahoma City Area IHS Optometry Consultant. She was promoted to Lieutenant Commander in 2017. She received the IHS Richard Hatch Junior Optometrist award in 2017. She is a member of Armed Forces Optometric Society (AFOS), AFOS Awards Committee, AFOS executive council member, American Optometric Association, and chair elect of the USPHS Optometry Professional Advisory Group.
