Charles Tessman, Sr., OD, FAAO (Army)

DR Charles “Chuck” Tessman started his eye care carrier in the Navy in 1983 as an optometric technician. He continued to provide technical assistance to optometrist and ophthalmologist until 1993 when he left the Navy to attend Ferris State University in Big Rapids Michigan for his undergraduate studies and then continued on to optometry school at the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State. Where he graduated in 1999. Chuck grew up 30 mile north of Big Rapids in LeRoy Michigan.

Chuck practiced with an ophthalmology group in the Upper Peninsula “U.P.” of Michigan after graduation until he and his family moved to Maine in 2005. After practicing in Maine for 3 years with an optometry practice and a short period at a Wal-Mart. Chuck joined the Army in 2008. He completed Officer basic in December 2008 and his first duty station was Vilseck Germany. While he was in Germany he was deployed to Iraq for 12 months.

After returning to the states and being stationed at Fort Riley Kansas he was selected for the Army Long Term Health Education Training Program (LTHET) where he did his residency in primary care optometry through SUNY at West Point. He continued on to be the Residency supervisor at Keller Army Community Hospital at West Point for 2 years and is now the Chief of the Eye Ear Nose Throat clinic at Bayne Jones Army Community Hospital Fort Polk.

Chuck is married to Jackie Tessman and has three children: Charles Tessman JR “Chaz”, Edith and Samuel.
