Keith W. Cespon, O.D., F.A.A.O

 

 

CDR Keith Cespon, is the US Public Health representative to the AFOS Board.  He graduated (with honors) from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology in 1988.  He was awarded the Doctor of Optometry from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1993.

 

Upon graduation, CDR Cespon was involved in private practice for 1 year, and then accepted a commission with the United States Navy in 1994.  Dr. Cespon served as the Dept. Head for the Branch Medical Clinic, NAS, North Island; and was the supervisor for the Low Vision Clinic at the Balboa Naval Medical Center.  Dr. Cespon was involved with the implementation of the Aviation Contact Lens Program at the BMC, NAS North Island, and he completed the Additional Qualifying Designator (AQD) for Aviation Optometry.  He received the Navy & Marine Achievement Medal for outstanding performance of duty and the National Defense Medal while on Active Duty with the Navy.

 

Dr. Cespon left active duty from 1998 to 2000 in order to pursue a more active role in surgical co-management.  He was a drilling reservist with Naval Hospital San Diego, Detachment 119.

 

He re-entered Active Duty with the US Public Health Service/Indian Health Service in 2000 and served at the Winslow Indian Health Center, Winslow AZ.   He received the USPHS Achievement Medal for outstanding performance of duty.  He recently transferred and is currently stationed at the Tuba City Indian Medical Center, Tuba City AZ.

 

Dr. Cespon is a Clinical examiner for the National Board of Optometry, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.   He has served as Adjunct Clinical Faculty for the Southern California of Optometry, the University of Houston College of Optometry, and the New England College of Optometry.

 

Dr. Cespon is engaged to LT Amy Webb (Nurse Corps), who also transferred from the Navy to the USPHS.  They enjoy the clinical/social challenges provided on the Indian Reservations and the responsibility of serving as Officers within the Uniformed Services.
